Shabby Dresser

I've been known to tweak my furniture over the years...a change of knob or handle here...a change of surface colour there.

This dresser reminds me of a cabinet I bought years ago from a second hand dealer in Geelong. I used it for the TV, very small TV at the time, my stereo and video player etc...and at one stage just left it sitting in a corner housing all my vases.

It had once been used as a child's small wardrobe and even had a rod put across the top so small hangars could be placed in there.

Then a year or so ago, we removed the rod, put a couple of extra shelves in it and painted it off white. And it's really come into it's own and looks sensational! It has a touch of the "shabby chic's" about it, just like the dresser pictured here, and currently works as our TV cabinet

I love this because it gives you an idea of what you can do even with an old piece of furniture.

This is called a Jobson Dresser...not sure what that is exactly, probably the manufacturer of it, but you can do great things with any old piece of furniture.

I've sanded and painted chairs, dressers, chests of drawers and beds in the past, just to give them a "lift". I've even painted the entire interior of our house. Or should I say I painted the ceilings and walls and left the archs and skirting boards to the pro's.

Delicate, intricate paint work is not one of my finer skills.

I really like painting though. I love the transformation. I love new plaster and watching all the patches and imperfections become one solid, white mass.

Love it!

There is a downside though. Whenever I've been painting the ceilings I tend to dream I'm still doing it...rolling away in my sleep...and oh boy. My arms!

All that Glitters

I'm going to try my hand at GILDING.

Silver gilding.

I've purchased the silver leaf and the brushes. I just have to get two more things and I'm going to gild a couple of picture frames.

My walls are painted Antique White USA and I think the silver will look very "cool" on them.

I love white bedrooms. I love white linen. It might be cold and windy here in Melbourne, but this reminds me of a sunny day with a light northerly breeze gently rustling through the silver birches and crepe myrtle in the front yard.

I love baking and have a couple of cake stands at home, one of which would be ideal for this application. If you don't have one I'm betting you could pick one up at the local op-shop too...A nice tray would also look pretty good with a couple of perfume bottles on it.

I discovered Janet Hill while browsing through a fellow blogger's site a week or so ago...and fell in love with her work. So I ordered two prints from her. This is one of them. "She Liked The Pink Ones."

The other was "Clara's Feathered Hat."

Truly gorgeous. I am going to have them framed and put them in my "sewing" room. They'll look gorgeous against the soft green walls with white trim.

What a lovely hallway setting. I love white and ivory with touches of silver. Have to be my favourite. I've been trying to find a silver vase in a similar style, but no luck so far. It will be found though....I'm determined.
