What a difference a day makes

Can you believe the difference a few days really make?

Here's our newly plastered bedroom....

This is what it looked like a few days ago.

Plaster, or as our North American friends call it, "drywall" is one of those marvellous, versatile, relatively cheap products that, if hung and finished well, can really make a house.

I'm so, so pleased the cornice worked out so well. It covers a multitude of sins and looks sensational.

I have to say I really love plaster. I love the way it looks just before you paint it when it's all smooth with all the gaps filled in and sanded...now to the painting!!

Footnote:

I won't bore you with any more pics of the bedroom until it's finished now. I don't want to bore you with unlimited updates of mess and painting etc... I've got a bit carried away I guess because I'm kicking myself  I didn't take any photos when I first bought the house and only a few during the building of the extension and I didn't want to miss this stage of the renovation.

So there you have it...the next pics you'll see will be of the completed bedroom

  1. What a difference. Agreed totally - the cornices are fantastic. They give alot more character to a room. Good luck with the painting!

  3. I love plaster too, it makes such a huge difference to a room. And as for decorative cornice, HUGE FAN! It looks lovely.

I love the step by step updates, I can't wait to see it finished. (And I too wish we took more photos of our house when we brought it before we started pulling it apart.)

  4. Thank you all....I was getting a bit worried that I was over doing it a bit.

I think plaster would have to be one of my all-time favourite building products.

I can't start painting till Saturday because it's going to take a couple of days to dry completely before we can sand it.
    Can't wait!

  6. Love the cornice but as I said before, the mere mention of the word 'plaster' makes me get a nervous tick! I'll be happy if I never have to do that again in this house. I think it's the painting that really makes you feel like you are getting there, will that smell :)

  8. Sarah, I understand how you feel, but whenever I see newly hung plaster all nice and smoothed off just before I'm about to paint, my heart goes all a flutter. lol The smell of paint doesn't bother me. To me it's a sign that it's almost done and it only lasts a day or so...the floor's another matter though, that nearly asphyxiates us...and the dogs go absolutely crazy.

Kym, WELCOME! Glad you found me...I've just checked out your blog too and am really impressed!!! I'll be checking in daily.
